Classes Suspended Due to Health Precaution

Dear OBT School families,

The Lake Oswego School District has identified a presumptive case of the COVID-19 Coronavirus. According to their communications symptoms began on February 19 and the identified individual may have exposed students and staff within the Lake Oswego School District.

As many OBT School students come from the Lake Oswego School District, OBT School will be following this district's protocols. We realize this is a departure from our normal protocol of following Portland Public School District's closures, and thank you for your understanding.

All classes at the Portland and West Linn locations, the Circus Polka audition, and today's family meeting are suspended effective Saturday, February 29. Classes will remain suspended until further notice. Please look for updates on the school’s reopening via email communication and the blog. Please check the Student Production blog for the rescheduled Circus Polka audition: http://obtyoungdancer.blogspot.com/.

OBT will undergo a deep cleaning while the school is closed. If you, or your student exhibit Coronavirus symptoms please seek the appropriate medical attention, then notify OBT at schoolofobt@obt.org or sobtwestlinn@obt.org.

We have no reason to believe, at this stage, that anyone involved with OBT or OBT School has contracted the virus, but we want to follow conservative procedures to ensure the health and safety of everyone in our community. We will continue to update on the situation and provide information as it becomes available. Thank you all for your understanding.

Family Meeting - February 29 @ 3:30 PM

OBT will hold a family meeting on Saturday, February 29, from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM at the Portland building.

Some of the topics to be discussed are 2020 Annual School Performance, summer programs, and preparation for pointe. There will also be a presentation from West Portland Physical Therapy Clinic at the top of the meeting.

For those who are unable to attend the meeting notes will be taken and distributed electronically following the meeting.

January 24 Masterclass - Elizabeth Guerin

Our Masterclass series picks up in the new year with former OBT dancer Elizabeth Guerin.

The class is scheduled for January 24th from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM and the cost is $30 per student. To register click here.

This workshop is open to OBT School students (Levels 4 and up) and the public. It is suitable for dancers with a strong technical ballet background – ages 13 and older. Ladies must have a minimum of two years pointe experience. Space is limited so please reserve your spot as soon as possible.

OBT School - Halloween - October 31, 2019

A message from Ms. Tonner:

All students in levels Primay, 1Boo, 2A, 1 & 2 Boys, 5, 6, and OooooBT2 at the Portland campus, and all students in 1, 3, and PD at the West Linn campus are invited to don a costume to class on Thursday, October 31, 2018.

Costumes should allow for the perfect Pirouette, the grandest Grand Plie, and the biggest Battement and should not interfere with any range of motion or cover your face (no masks). Also, we need to be aware of our youngest dancers who will be here on Halloween; no gory costumes, please!

Come one, come all, to class in your finest garments, your scariest suits, your frilliest fineries on Halloween!

Due to space constraints, students are limited to two guests for Family Observation periods. Due to limited space at our Portland location, guests are asked to utilize street parking. We ask that you please arrive on time, as late arrivals may not be admitted into the studio. We welcome younger children to watch their older siblings during class, though should their attention start to wane we ask that they quietly step outside the studio so class may continue free of distraction. Also, please reserve all conversations until after the class has finished.

Photography and videography is prohibited during class and mobile phones must be switched off. If you are unable to adhere to these rules, you may be asked to leave the classroom.

February 4, 2019 - Classes Will Proceed

For tonight, February 4, classes at OBT School's Portland campus will proceed as regularly scheduled.

We ask that families use caution when deciding whether or not to send their child to class. No student will be penalized if they do not attend class due to inclement weather. Please notify the school by phone or e-mail if the student will not attend classes this evening.

OBT School's Inclement Weather Policy

The Portland campus follows Portland Public School District’s decisions regarding inclement weather closures or delays, and the West Linn campus follows the West Linn-Wilsonville School District’s decisions.

If either school district closes for the entire day then the corresponding OBT School campus will not hold either morning or evening classes.
If either school district closes early and/or cancels evening activities, then the corresponding OBT School campus will not hold evening classes, including Pre-Ballet, Preparatory Division and Adult Workshops.

If either school district has a late start then the corresponding OBT School campus will not hold morning classes, including the Preprofessional Division.

In the event that either school district does not close, open late or release early, then the corresponding OBT School campus will proceed with classes, unless otherwise stated, and we ask that families use caution when deciding whether or not to send their child to class. No student will be penalized if they do not attend class due to inclement weather. Please notify the school by phone or e-mail if the student will not attend classes that day.
