Three Week Summer Program

for Younger Students

June 23 - July 10, 2014

(Levels Pre-ballet - Level 2)

General Information
This summer the School of Oregon Ballet Theatre will be offering a three week program tailored especially for its younger students. The program will offer students in Pre-ballet, First Steps and Levels 1 and 2 the chance to experience the joys of ballet and dance under the guidance of SOBT’s professionally trained faculty.

Pre-ballet and First Steps Morning Program (June 23 - July 10)
Classes at these levels will meet twice a week over a three week period focusing on movement and movement in relation to music. Students are taught to connect imagery with movement and begin to develop coordination, listening skills, and musicality. Students will also be introduced to the basic elements of classical dance. Each class will use the theme of a classical story ballet (such as Swan Lake, Cinderella, or The Sleeping Beauty) to explore movement and storytelling, and will present an informal showing for parents on the last day of class. Classes will stress the joys of dance, music and movement in a fun and nurturing environment. No prior training is necessary for this program. Please note, space and class size is limited, and registration is based strictly on a first come, first served basis.

Half Day Summer Dance Camp (June 23 - July 10)
For Levels 1 and 2, the School of Oregon Ballet Theatre is offering a special three week summer camp. Classes and workshops will take place Monday through Thursday from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm. In addition to a daily one hour and fifteen minute ballet class, both levels will experience introductory classes in other dance forms and music. There will be visits to various OBT departments including the costume shop, pointe shoe room and the production department. Visits will include fun on-the-job projects. Students should not be surprised if their favorite OBT company dancers stop by for informal visits throughout the camp. Additionally, there will be daily dance-based workshops that fuel creativity, expression and imagination in improvisation, compositional processes, and performing arts dance forms. The workshops will lead to an informal, in studio showing for parents on the last day of the camp. The workshops will focus on a theme based on a classical ballet, well-known story, or popular piece of music.  Please note, space and class size is limited, and registration is based strictly on a first come, first served basis.
