OBT: Executive Director Dennis Buehler

Dear SOBT Community,

I am writing to send you advance notice of important news happening at Oregon Ballet Theatre today. Later this morning the organization will announce OBT Executive Director Dennis Buehler has taken a job as president and chief executive officer of the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation, a grant-making organization in his hometown of Green Bay, Wisconsin. Mr. Buehler will remain with OBT until February 18, 2017.

We will send all families the official press release later today after it has been made public, and I will keep you posted regarding recruiting and interim plans. The press release will also be available on the School’s blog.

I personally want to thank Mr. Buehler for the solid leadership he provided during his tenure and for the considerable energy he put into helping make SOBT a stronger school. It will be a bittersweet farewell, but I wish Mr. Buehler the very best in his future and will always value the time I had working with him.

Lastly, I want to state I am looking forward to the future of both OBT and SOBT as we continue to thrive and grow in our community.

2017 Summer Intensive Registration - SOBT Students Level 3 - OBT2

Dear SOBT Families,

Registration for The School of Oregon Ballet Theatre’s 2017 Summer Intensive (SI) is now open for current SOBT students in Level 3 through OBT2.

Our SI takes place again this year for six weeks, July 10 through August 19, and is available as either a two, four or six week session. Under certain circumstances there is flexibility with modifying which weeks students would attend. This year’s intensive will feature classes in several different dance forms, different guest teachers every two weeks, and workshops in various dance and performance based subjects.

Registration for all programs is limited and on a first come basis. In the case of the SI record number of students attended last year, and it is expected to be the same for this year. It is recommended students register as soon as possible to hold a place as class sizes are limited. In opening registration early it is the hope that all SOBT students will be able to attend the SI.

Students should register for summer classes in the level they are currently registered for in the Annual Session (AS), unless otherwise informed by their teacher. As in years past students will be informed of level advancements for next year’s AS prior to the start of the new school year.

All SOBT students are expected to attend at least some portion of the SI. For students who plan to audition and attend non-SOBT summer programs or intensives, SOBT asks you communicate plans to the School Director prior to audition or attendance. This may be communicated by e-mail to schoolofobt@obt.org and the message will be passed on to Mr. Jones.

You do not need to complete a new registration form for the SI, though this is an excellent time to contact the school with any updates to your family’s contact information or child’s permission to leave unescorted, permission to be picked up by individuals, etc.

For the 2017 SI tuition may be paid in full or in four equal amounts, with the three subsequent payments auto-charged on the original date of purchase for the following three months.

Scholarship Information
A limited number of tuition scholarships are available. The due date for scholarship application materials to be completed and submitted to TADS and The School of OBT is March 31. You will be notified of your scholarship status April 15. To apply click here.

Inclement Weather Make-Up Plan for Portland Students

For students of the Portland studio who missed classes due to inclement weather, please see details as to make-up classes by each level.

Pre-Ballet 3/4 & Pre-Ballet 5/6
Students are allowed to make-up missed classes in any other section of the same age group at any point during the 2017 Winter term, ending March 25, 2017.

Children’s Beginning Ballet
Students are allowed to make-up missed classes in any other section of Children’s Beginning Ballet at any point prior to the end of the school year, June 3, 2017.

Level 1A through Level 6
SOBT will hold an additional week of classes June 5, 2017 through June 10, 2017. The schedule will be slightly modified, with classes taking place between 5:30 PM and 8:30 PM. A detailed schedule will be published closer to that week.

Adult Absolute Beginning Ballet Workshop
A week of make-up classes will be held March 27 through March 30. Absolute Beginning Ballet Workshop students will be provided with two make-up classes during this week on Tuesday, March 28 and Thursday, March 30, from 7 PM to 8:15 PM.

Adult Beginning Ballet Workshop
A week of make-up classes will be held March 27 through March 30. Beginning Ballet Workshop students will be provided a make-up class during this week on Thursday, March 30, from 7 PM to 8:15 PM.

Adult Intermediate Ballet Workshop
A week of make-up classes will be held March 27 through March 30. Intermediate Beginning Ballet Workshop students will be provided with a make-up class during this week on Wednesday, March 29, from 7:30 PM to 8:45 PM.

Inclement Weather Make-up plan for SOBT West Linn

Below is information regarding make-up classes due to the recent snow days.  Note: This is for the WEST LINN location only. 

Please stay tune for an announcement regarding Portland classes. 

Pre-Ballet classes:

If your child is enrolled in a Pre-Ballet 3/4 or Pre-Ballet 5/6, your child may attend one of the other Pre-Ballet classes at the same level your child is enrolled in before the end of Winter term, March 25, 2015. Please email sobtwestlinn@obt.org before the class you intend to make-up to reserve your space. Because many of these classes are full or almost full, we can only accommodate a few make-up students per class.

                Pre-Ballet 3/4  meets Tuesdays from 4-4:45pm or Saturdays from 8:45-9:30am

                Pre-Ballet 5/6 meets Tuesday 4:45-5:30pm, Wednesdays 5:30-6:15pm, Thursdays 4:30-5:15pm, or Saturdays 9:30-10:15am

Children’s Beg. Ballet (CBB):

Your child may attend one of the other Children’s Beg. Ballet classes on the schedule as a make-up class before the end of the school year. Please email sobtwestlinn@obt.org before the class you intend to make-up to make sure there is space and it’s a good day to attend.

                Children’s Beg. Ballet meets Tuesdays 5:30-6:30pm or Saturdays 10:15-11:15am

Level 1:

The make up class will be on President’s Day, Feb. 20^th at the normal class time.

Adult Classes:

The Tuesday Intermediate Ballet will make-up on March 21, 2017 at your regular class time.

The Wednesday Beginning Ballet will make-up on March 22, 2017 at your regular class time.

The Thursday Adult Jazz and Intermediate Ballet will make-up on March 23, 2017 at your regular class time.

No Wednesday Morning Adult Drop-in Class

Due to weather, the Wednesday morning Adult Drop-in class has been canceled.  All other SOBT classes will proceed as scheduled on Wednesday, January 18.

UPDATE: All classes at SOBT have been canceled for Tuesday, January 17th due to inclement weather at both Portland and West Linn locations.

It is our policy to follow Portland Public Schools and the West Linn- Wilsonville School Districts' inclement weather policies.

We are discussing plans for make up classes later in the year. Please check your email and the blog for specific information regarding this subject by the end of the week.

We hope you are all warm and safe.

SOBT to open at noon on Friday, January 13

As of Thursday evening, SOBT is planning to open at noon on Friday, January 13, and all afternoon and evening classes will take place.  SOBT also plans to be open for classes on Saturday and Sunday. 

 

For those students involved in Swan Lake, rehearsals will take place on Friday as planned.

 

As always continue to check the blog or the school's website for immediate updates in the case of changes to weather conditions.

 

This is a break in our general policy to follow Portland Public Schools, but after discussions this evening we believe it will be safe enough for travel by tomorrow.  We do ask that you please exercise discretion when making the decision to attend classes tomorrow and over the weekend; if it appears unsafe to travel from where you live please simply let us know by emailing the school at schoolofobt@obt.org.  Safety is our main concern and we would never want or expect anyone to travel if safety is an issue.

 

Early next week we will be discussing plans for make up classes later in the year.  Please check your email and the blog for specific information regarding this subject by the end of next week.

Swan Lake rehearsals canceled

For students involved in Swan Lake all rehearsals have been canceled for today, Thursday, January 12.  Stay tuned for information about tomorrow.

SOBT closed Thursday

In keeping with our policy to follow both Portland Public Schools and West Linn - Wilsonville School District, both SOBT Portland and West Linn will remain closed on Thursday, January 12, 2017.

 
Rehearsals for those involved in Swan Lake will proceed as scheduled.
 

We are looking into providing make up classes for the weather cancellations we've had this winter.  Please check the blog for news on this topic next week.

SOBT Portland and West Linn closed Wednesday, January 10

Due to the snowstorm, both SOBT Portland and West Linn will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, January 10. 

 

We hope to be up and running again come Thursday.

SOBT has cancelled all classes for Monday, January 9, at its Portland studio.

This is in keeping with The School of OBT's inclement weather policy, which follows Portland Public Schools District, which has cancelled all classes and activities for the day.
